Hi Chloe! Lets start at the beginning, how did the two of you meet?
Our first date was in the Spiritualist in Glasgow back in 2019. Things didn’t get off to the best of starts as Gregor turned up late and was sporting an awful attempt at a moustache for Movember. His great chat recovered the date and he somehow bagged himself a second date! Our next number of dates were all fun competitive activities and it didn’t take me long to figure out he was the guy for me.
So having been together 5 years, Gregor had some time to plan the proposal. Can you tell us what happened?
Gregor engineered a trip to London which included a surprise location anniversary meal. Only when we got in the taxi, did I know we were going to the Shard. I never at any point expected what was coming next. He had organised a private dining in the sky experience. He had the room decorated in red petals and polaroids of us over the years. Following a glass of bubbly and taking some new photos, Gregor got down on one knee holding the most stunning solitaire ring. Gregor had enlisted my mum to help choose my engagement ring (they both done amazingly well). The meal to follow was delicious but a complete blur. Following the meal, we face-timed our parents, siblings and grandparents to share our amazing news. We continued the celebrations on the rooftop dancing the night away.
What was the most important part of your wedding planning?
The venue was the first and most important booking. We both had our hearts set on Crossbasket Castle and luckily they had a Saturday available in 2024 which we snapped up. Locking down a date allowed us to reach out to other suppliers.
How did you tackle the rest of your wedding planning?
Having been to many wedding previously, we had a good idea of what we wanted form our other suppliers. Finding the right band was so much harder than we realised as live band showcases aren’t as frequent as you think. When we heard 40Beat for the first time, we knew instantly that’s what we had been looking for all along. I also didn’t realise how much work was involved in having real flowers in every aspect of the wedding day. Thank god we had an amazing florist. Selecting a four course meal for 150 guests is way more daunting than you would realise. Gregor and I are real foodies and this was his favourite part of the planning. However deciding on what to have for each course was not our favourite part! We really struggled to narrow it down.
It wasn’t all plain sailing and we had a number of hiccups along the way but all resolved themselves and all worked out perfectly!
Now your dress journey can begin! You had a bespoke dress made for your wedding, tell us about your bridal vision coming to life.
I visited Anne Priscilla during the Sassi Holford trunk show and selected 5 dresses from different designers of varying styles. I initially thought I would have picked an A-line dress with sparkly detail however I went for the absolute opposite. Straight, column dress in the most magnificent silk fabric with no sparkle. I loved everything about the dress, however, I had a reservation about the neckline. My stylist Karen and Sassi discussed different necklines and at that point, I knew this was the one. Sassi created a mock neckline and attached it to the dress. She then sketched my bespoke design adding in the extra details we had discussed e.g extra pearl buttons to the bottom of the train. For the first time in my entire experience I felt calm and absolutely sure about the dress I had chosen.
Tell us about the moment you knew it was “the one”?
When I put my dress on, I knew something felt different. I walked out the changing room to see my Mum and Grandmas face light up. I didn’t want to take the dress off and I couldn’t wait to pick my veil, headpiece and shoes. I felt confident and special and I could already picture myself walking down the aisle.
Karen was your AP stylist on the day, how integral was her advice?
Karen was the person I never realised I needed. She listened, never judged, reassured me, supported and guided me and shared her expertise. She is the best of the best!
So, after all this planning how was the day itself?
Bothwell Parish Church and Crossbasket Castle were decorated with stunning fresh flowers by Stalks and Stems. The colour scheme was pink and gold with a hint of navy to complement the kilts. Every single moment was amazing. The food at Crossbasket was delicious accompanied with some fantastic wines and champagne. After the formal part of the day, we wanted to have one huge party. We had lots of different music throughout the day which included strings, solo singers, a choir, pipers and an amazing band to top it all off.
Did you have any surprises for your guests?
We didn’t realise when we bought glow sticks how much fun they would be. So much so, our grandparents never left the dancefloor. All our guest filled the dancefloor all night long and are still talking about it to this day. It was one amazing day that we never wanted to end.
When Gregor saw you for the first time, what has his reaction?
Gregor initially said his overwhelming feeling was jaw dropping and that I looked regal walking down the aisle. Throughout the day he commented on the intricate detail of my veil.
And your guests?
Everyone said in reflection they should have known how I would look – classy, elegant and stunning. Everyone commented on the beautiful duchess silk fabric of my dress, and my stunning veil.
Did you break or make any traditions?
I have never been superstitious but as our wedding day approached I feared it may rain (after all it is Scotland) a friend told me to put a Child of Prague under a bush in the front garden and while I didn’t believe this could work I simply could not take the chance so the evening before we placed him in a bush in the garden… for what its worth the rain did not come and the sun shone albeit a little windy.
What is the best part of being married?
We can take on the world together as an awesome team. Build and create dreams together and having a lifelong companion.
